Unit Clerk - OakView Health Center

Department: Skilled Nursing
Salary/Hourly Rate: $DOE - $DOE Per Hour

GENERAL SUMMARY: 

OakView Health Center is currently hiring for a full time Unit Clerk to work in the Skilled Nursing Department. Open Availability. The Unit Clerk is a member of the ancillary nursing personnel responsible for providing clerical support to licensed staff and medical records, which involves clerical reception and communication duties. Must be courteous, patient, reliable, tactful, and well groomed.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES: 

  • Greets and directs visitors. Answers telephone calls and provides information or relays messages to patients and medical staff.
  • Responsible for the call light system, Pages CNAís and/or charge nurses as per residentís needs.
  • Maintains the health information service for the nursing station and ensures it is kept private and confidential in accordance with current laws and regulations.
  • Prepares the charts and ID bands for new admissions
  • Completes discharge paperwork for discharging residents
  • Prompts consultants to record their time worked in Skilled Nursing (ie: Medical Director, Pharmacy, Dietician, Psychiatrist, etc). Collects these time records from the Consultants and provides to Administrator every Friday in mail slot.
  • Responsible for knowing fire disaster procedures.
  • Maintains the in-house chart appearance and organization. Maintains stations neat and orderly.
  • Submits work orders for maintenance as necessary.
  • Faxes lab work and other work as necessary. Transcribe orders given by physicians
  • Prints out lab results as needed.
  • Keep record of absences by personnel.
  •  Audits MARS, TARS and CNA flow sheets for accuracy and completeness.RNA Meal % log book, HS snacks
  • Completes administrative support duties for the nursesí station, including filing, stocking supplies, preparing charts, and maintaining station lists. Maintains an organized nursesí station.
  • Log report for incidents and accidents as needed.
  • Updating/inputting daily/weekly/monthly weights.
  • Updates shower list & diet list as needed
  • Notifies kitchen of diet changes and room changes.
  • Notifies housekeeping of rooms that need to be cleaned.
  • Schedules resident appointments and arranges transportation.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent years of experience.
  • Ability to read, speak, and write in English.
  • Knowledgeable of medical terminology.
  • Previous experience in a skilled nursing facility as a unit clerk preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills and telephone etiquette
  • Must be able to concentrate with frequent interruptions
  • Exhibits proficiency in typing and computer operations.
  • Neat and well organized.
  • Ability to handle high stress situations.

TESTING REQUIREMENTS: 

Applicants for this position are required to complete a computer-based Customer Service Aptitude test. Please complete the test at a time that is convenient for you. Be aware, once you begin the test, you will not be able to 'come and go' on the testing site. You must complete the test in one sitting. The test is multiple choice, and will take about 30 minutes. You will not be considered for this position until the test has been completed.
